Revenu Generating Activities
Why those activities?
Today 90% of the running costs are funded by foreign sponsors. This is not sustainable and we have decided to invest in revenu generating activities in order to supply funds for 25% of the running costs by 2028.
The plan is to invest 150.000 euro per year in infrastructure for income generating activities.
Activities already in place
Storage and animal feed production unit:
The productions of the 10 Ha cultivated are or used in the production of feeds (corn, soja) or used in the meals of the students (lentils, beans, okra). We can produce feed for chicken, pigs, cows, rabbits and fish.
Moringa garden:
The production of moringa will be in part used fresh in the meals of the students and dry in the feed for animals.
Compost production unit:
This unit uses crop waste, stable manure and chicken droppings. We also buy crop waste and manure from neighbouring farmers. This compost is used to fertilise the 10 Ha that we cultivate. We can produce 18 tonnes of compost per year.
Fields culture :
We mainly grow corn, soybeans, beans, lentils, okra. Their harvests are used for student meals and for the production of animal feed.
New planned activities
Fish farming:
We are planning 8 fish tanks, each of which can accommodate 5,000 tilapia or catfish fry. They will be sold fresh or smoked. Some of them will also be used for students’ meals.
Greenhouse for vegetables:
Four greenhouses of 250m2 will be used to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers. Irrigation will be done by a drip system. We expect to be able to harvest 3,000 kg of tomatoes per harvest per greenhouse.
Eggs production:
We plan to have 4 chicken coops that can accommodate 500 laying hens each. Each chicken coop should produce approximately 100,000 eggs per year.
